This Acer Aspire comes with Linpus Linux software. To be honest, this the software is a little complicated and is not user friendly. If you are not familiar and do not use Linux that hard, this operating system will not do good for you. The thing is, you have to be familiar with the basic commands of the linux.
However, the recommended software for this laptop is VISTA. Even the drivers that comes with it are VISTA ready. So if you are planning to use XP on this laptop, you may have to spend a little more time downloading the drivers on the net.
My Personal Feedback
This laptop is really sleak in its design. Crystal clear camera with a crystal clear monitor. This may be the trademark of the Acer art.
What I just don't like with this laptop is the very limited USB port. It has ONLY 2, AS IN TWO USB PORTS. In my case, the other USB port is damaged, so I cannot also use it. Shew... anyway, I must admit that I am still really enjoying this really nice laptop.
Another thing that I do not like with this laptop is the mediocre sound. Comparing it to DELL Presario, DELL is still ahead in its technology when it comes to laptop sound.
So if I have to grade this laptop, I will grade it with 4 out of 5, 5 being the highest.
Partnering it with UBUNTU Linux
Well, I really like UBUNTU Linux. I really have no problem running all the softwares in this laptop upon my installation of UBUNTU Linux except for some problems that may involve hardware-driver supports.
Here are the things that you will really have to work on:
Video playing. Since some of the drivers of intel especially the new hardware supports is not yet supported with some linux operating systems including ubuntu. Though I tried checking the internet though, i found out that OpenSUSE and Mandriva. But since I am using UBUNTU, boy, even until now that I am writing this, I still cannot play video here because all my other programs running including my desktop freezes except for my mouse cursor.
WIFI Problem. As I said many hardware used in this laptop are still new to market and because of that, many most linux softwares does not yet support these hardwares. Maybe we only have to wait for a few more months....
Camera. Well, there is really nothing wrong in running the acer built in camera in this laptop using UBUNTU. However, the resolution and the output is mediocre in comparison to that if you are using XP or Vista. But again, Ubuntu might be far more better than that of Windows in the near future.
Over all, I love this laptop while having the linux ubuntu installed. It's just there are some problems that needs to be resolved.:)) And if I will have to choose between Linux and Windows, I will still choose Linux.
