Compatible Games For Acer Aspire 4330

Many laptops now are able laptops, which means that they are semi-powerful laptops. Many of them are now capable of playing good games. The main struggle with laptops however, lies mainly on the video graphic hardware that the laptop has.

We must understand that graphic hardware of laptops is built in and not upgradable. Thus, it is one of the main set backs of laptops especially if you are a gamer. Though some laptops where already equipped with powerful video graphic hardware like the Acer Aspire 8920G Gemstone, still most of Acer Aspire Series and most laptops have slower devices.

In addition to this, these built in video graphic hardware share with your RAM which makes it stressful for your laptop to process it. And if gaming will be abused, you may end up frying your own notebook.

Despite all these, there are some games that are not too stressful for your Acer Aspire 4330 that I would like to share to you.

If you have an Acer Aspire 4330 and you have a video graphic hardware model: Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, you have to check the specs by clicking it.. It will lead you to the site that will tell you the capabilities of this video graphic hardware.

It has 10 pipelines unified, core speed is 533Mhz, Direct X 10, Shader 4.0. These capabilites are fair enough. But notice that it is has a “shared” memory which is very common for laptops.

For experience purposes, I have tried playing these games in my very own laptop Acer Aspire 4330:

  1. Starcraft – highly recommended

  2. NBA Live 2008 - I do not recommend this game for your laptop.

  3. Civilization 3

Haven't tried this games but these games are have been reported to run on this laptop:

  1. Warcraft

  2. Counter Strike (the older 1)

  3. Diablo

  4. etc. other games that has similar system requirements of these games.

Warning though: I really do not recommend that you play too much games with your laptop. But if you really want games, try the older version of games, the one that runs with windows 98. In this way, you will be able to at least have safety measures that your laptop will not be fried. Have a nice day!!!

Note

I also do not warrant any failures of your laptop in playing these games. I will also not answer in damages of your hardware. Any attempt of playing games in your laptop is purely you own discretion and not mine.

Compatible Games for Acer Aspire 8920G Gemstone

Having a Class 2 Video Card; Nvidia GeForce 9650M GS with up to 1280 Turbo Cache (512MB of dedicated GDDR3 VRAM) or Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS with up to 1280 Turbo Cache (512MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM), the Acer Aspire 8920G Gemstone is compatible with some of the latest games. And I am sure that your interest of having this laptop will grow all the more, especially if you know that this laptop can somehow outdo your desktop. So if you are a gamer, this post is for you.

Here are the following games that has been tested for this laptop (based from the testing of my brother who own one):

  1. Call of Duty Modern Warfare

  2. Call of Duty World At War

  3. Company of Heroes

  4. Warcraft

  5. Starcraft

  6. Counter-Strike

I am sure that there are lot more games that are compatible with this heavy weight champion laptop. One of my favorite is Company of Heroes. This game requires a real video card and a huge amount of RAM. Therefore if this laptop can play this game, I am pretty sure that it won't fail your expectation as a gamer.

Please note however, that generally laptops are not designed for gaming purposes (though there are some). Abuse of your laptop may lead to system failures and in worst cases, frying your laptops.

If you have tested more games using this laptop, please post it below.

Review On Acer Aspire 8920G Series

Let's go first with the basic specifications:
2.4GHz na dual core
18.4" Full HD, Acer Fine Cinecrystal
DDR2 667MHz upgradable to 4G using 2 soDIMM modules
Blue ray optical drive
Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN Network Connection
Blue tooth
Nvidia GeForce 9650M GS with up to 1280 Turbo Cache (512MB of dedicated GDDR3 VRAM) or Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS with up to 1280 Turbo Cache (512MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM)
And it is 4.1kg or 9.04 lbs.

This giant Laptop was designed for Vista, but then again, so far, there is no exemption to the compatability of Ubuntu Linux to laptops like this.

This laptop is obviously heavy but this one is currently one of the "top of the line" laptops as this post is being published. I would say that this is the upcoming cheap laptops maybe after 2 years.

This laptop is also designed for gamers having 2G default DDR2 RAM, it can still be upgraded up to 4G plus a category 2 graphic support. Due to its heavy weight and high end specs, this can be a good replacement to any ordinary existing desktop computers.

It also possess an HD screen combined with the Blue Ray optical drive especially designed for extraordinary cinematic experience.

Acer Aspire 8920G Series is not just a "Gemstone" its a "Gemrock" because of its weight, and its high-end specs.

Mini Notebooks: The Down Side

It cannot be denied that mini notebooks such as Asus Eee and HP 2133 have already gained a market. These notebooks can definitely do the basic works of a laptop. But what are the down side of these mini notebooks?

1. Currently (because there might be a change in the future), mini notebooks have a smaller storage capacity. Asus Eee, when it first came out the market was very attractive, yet when I tried to check its hard drive, it is only 4 G. And what software can you install with 4G now?

2. Most of them don't have a CD/DVD drive. This is a downside especially if you are a movie watcher. Currently, a flash drive with 8G is still a little expensive. Furthermore, you will have to put all your software in your CD or DVD in your flash drive first before you will be able to install your favorite software into these mini notebooks. And for all you know, CD/DVD is not yet out in the market. And even if it will, Blue Ray is still their close relative.

3. Most Mini Notebooks have a smaller RAM. This caused me to think more if I really need a mini notebook or not. We all know that in a computer, there are generally 3 things that we have to see in the specification to know whether or not, our PC is fast; the processor, RAM, and the video card. Either one of those is slow, it will greatly affect the speed of your PC/laptops.

4. Most of them are more expensive when it comes to "cost-benefit" analysis. I would say that if I have to choose a laptop that cost $300 vs. a mini notebook that cost $200, I will still choose the $300 especially if their specs differences are far apart.

5. Most of them have more limited capabilities. I used to think before that Mini Notebooks can do whatever the regular laptops can. But as of now, I am convinced that it still cannot outdo the regular laptops in its capabilities. If we are only going to consider these downside and we really value our money, regular laptops can definitely trash mini notebooks out.

In the end, as buyers we are still the one to decide. If you are always on the move and you doesn't have to consider the downsides that I have mentioned, then feel free to have one. I can say that they are still cool gadgets. It's just I want to value my money especially in times of crisis.

But, there is no doubt that mini laptops manufacturers can make their products more attractive in the future by improving the RAM, hard drive, and its other features in lower prices. Then, I should have no reason why not buy mini notebooks.

Gparted Compatible With Acer 4330

Yesterday, I downloaded the so-called "Gparted" software. It is a totally free software used in Ubuntu (I think in all Linux OS), that makes it easier to create a partition without necessarily erasing everything in your hard drive. But for safety purposes, please back up all your files first before partitioning your drive.

Here's a simple procedure:

First, download the Gparted from Source Forge. It is about 95 MB which means that it may take a while in downloading it.

Next is to burn the CD image that you just have downloaded in a CD. Do not burn it merely as a data file, burn the CD image so that you'll get the files rightly embeded in your CD.

Then reboot in that CD. To do this, you need to go back to your CMOS (just before booting, press F2. For other laptops, you can enter your CMOS by pressing Delete. Please do note thatt different laptops may have different keys in entering CMOS) and set your priority booting to your CD/DVD drive. Save and exit then restart your system. This time, it should reboot on your Gparted CD.

Once it booted, be sure to choose choice 2 for you to be able to eject the CD after booting. Then it will continue to load the rest of the files. After booting in your CD, everything should be self-explanatory. It is much simpler than partitioning windows.

Please note that once you hit the "Apply" you are ready to partition your hard drive and it may take a while to finish it.

After doing so, eject the CD, reboot again and go back to your CMOS, then reset your priority boot to your hard drive. If you have done it correctly, you should see another partition of your hard drive when you click "Places" in your Menu Tab.

Solving Update Error of Ubuntu in Acer 4330

Well, I think this command is not only true in Acer 4330 but to all laptops and other desktops as well.

If you are using Ubuntu, there will be times that you will receive errors like this while you are updating:

GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dis...6/Packages.bz2 Hash Sum mismatch
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead

This is sometimes caused by your last update where the cache of your computer has not been cleared. In order to still get the updates, here is a possible solution that might solve this error:

sudo apt-get update -o Acquire::http::No-Cache=True

Then you can type in more update commands such as these:

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

By the way, just want to remind you that these codes are entered using the terminal, "the command prompt" of Ubuntu.

The terminal is located in Applications>Accessories>Terminal

There you have it!!! Hopefully it will solve the errors you are getting.

Just a very quick update. I just discovered this in my laptop. If you are using Acer 4330 with Ubuntu, and you are having some problems when playing videos like freezing and crashing of your software, upgrading it to 8.10 might be the best solution for now.

I installed 8.04 Hardy Heron on my laptop, but i get this Freezing problem every time I play video files. But now after upgrading, everything now is going smoothly. I can now have a complete use of my laptop.

Get UBUNTU 8.10 Intrepid now and update it.

Acer Aspire 4330 Drivers

Acer Aspire drivers should not be difficult to find in the net. But I just want to give these links to you to make your life a lot easier. Scan through this links if you will find the drivers that you need, and hopefully it will because I downloaded my drivers from these sites too.

Just a note, please read this very carefully.

In installing Vista or XP, please note that some of the drivers may vary if you have installed Vista in comparison to XP. I really don't know why is it like that exactly, but I think it is in the difference of the their OS environment. So be sure to check first what kind of Operating System did you installed.

So here are the useful links that you may want to check.

Intel Drivers - If your Acer Aspire have Intel Chipsets

Atheros - For your wireless LAN if you are using Atheros for your wireless connection.

Acer Aspire 4310-4710 - Click here if you really are looking for a complete set of drivers for your Aspire 4310-4710.

Ubuntu and Internet Marketing

Some internet marketers refrain from using Linux OS because many of them does not know how to use it to the max. But I think, every internet marketer should learn how to use it for several reasons.

First of all, for safety reasons. There are thousands and perhaps hundreds of thousands kind of viruses out there in the big vast world wide web. Many people like hackers are trying to invade Microsoft just to prove the point that their system is weak and will always have loopholes in security. But Linux on the other hand is different, most Linux programs are made by the people itself. Let us say Ubuntu. By the name itself, it says Linux for human beings. It is totally free software.

Most people who protect Ubuntu were driven by passion and love to people who cannot afford to buy security softwares for their computers. Unlike in windows, most of those people who are there to protect it were driven by money.

This is the uniqueness of Ubuntu and other Linux operating systems. This is why it is almost virus free, and if there is, it is very rare. We can see here that it is more safe to use Linux, in my case Ubuntu, compared to windows based operating systems.

Secondly, for economic reasons. The world today has been plagued by crisis. And I am pretty sure that if you are an internet marketer or even just an ordinary person, you will really avoid spending much money. Well guess what? Windows based operating system will cost you hundreds of dollars just for you to acquire all the things that you need for your computer, Operating System, Anti Virus, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, DreamWeaver, PDF maker, etc.

In Ubuntu, it is totally free. And all these programs have it's own equivalence even the anti virus (though most linux doesn't have anti virus because there is almost no virus in linux).

XP, VISTA vs. UBUNTU, Mandriva, OpenSuse, etc.

Adobe Photoshop vs. GIMP

MS Office vs. Open Office

DreamWeaver vs. Kompozer (formerly NVU)

Commercial PDF makers vs. Open Office direct PDF making

All these softwares are free. Though I really cannot tell which is best, but if one of your main categories is economical, Linux based programs will have the most points. But if you will count the “user friendly” aspect, then “maybe” windows based programs will still win. But then again it is all up to you to decide.

Finally, if you are really looking for some “real” colleagues, Ubuntu will really be one of the best. Ubuntu has the best forum on the net. I have been around the forum for a months now, and wow, there are really lots of people who loves to help you. No hidden secrets about Ubuntu. They will tell you how to troubleshoot your own computer.

So there you are. If you are a newbie in internet marketing and really want to get ahead start without spending a dime (granted that you already have your own pc), then you can try UBUNTU.

UBUNTU For Acer Aspire 4330

There is really no doubt that UBUNTU is one of the best operating system that I have used. I've been using computer for about 10 years now. I have used Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, and XP. I also have tried Fedora, Ubuntu, and Novell in 2004.

Today, I am now using UBUNTU 8.04 Hardy Heron on my laptop ACER ASPIRE 4330. And it is really great in comparison with XP. There are things that I really love with Ubuntu Linux. Not only that I love its philosophy, I also love the software that comes with it.

In my previous article, I pointed out that UBUNTU have improved much since the time that I first used it. And today, I am very happy and satisfied that I am using UBUNTU.

Here are some staggering advantage in using this great operating system:
1.It is completely free, including the upgrades.
2.It is virus free.
3.The UBUNTU Support forum is just REALLY GREAT, the BEST forum I ever entered.
4.UBUNTU now is a lot easier to use. Though still not as easy as windows, but it is more like it now compared to what it was 4 years ago.
5.Literally speaking, if we are only talking about office works and web development, I think that it is already 90% capable to do the work as what windows can. In fact, in some cases, it is far better than windows can do.

Here are some few disadvantages:
1.More than half of the world uses Microsoft Windows program. This is why all the programs that you may like in windows, may not completely compatible with Ubuntu Linux like Microsoft games and other window based softwares like Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop.
2.Some latest hardwares does not come with Linux support drivers. Though, many hardware manufacturers now have Linux support drivers, there are still few that does not. And this might be a serious problem in running some of your softwares when using Ubuntu Linux.
3.Installation and repairing of system is a little complicated. I will say that it really needs a hands on study. But this is an advantage of Ubuntu at the same time, because even though installation and removing of software programs is a little complicated, it makes it system more stable and easier to recover in comparison to windows. This means that you have to be familiar with the commands, and always in connection with the forum.

So if you are going to ask me which one will I choose; UBUNTU Linux or Windows??? The answer is UBUNTU Linux.

Most of the time I use my computer for office works only and not for games. And fortunately, everything that I need for my office works exists in UBUNTU. So why should I have to stick and pay, when I can get a virus free, and TOTALLY FREE operating system?

My laptop is Acer Aspire 4330. In it is UBUNTU. I must admit though that right now, my video is not working that well because of driver problem. Intel has not yet updated their video drivers. But soon it will. And when it comes, I will completely shift to UBUNTU, and will no longer use windows.

Review on Acer Aspire 4330-592G32Mn With L inux

Acer Aspire 4330-592G32Mn And L
inux
(http://www.acer.com.ph/notebook.php?pkey=123)

SPECS:
Processor Type: Intel Celeron M 575 (2.0GHz, 1MB, 667FSB)

Chipset: Mobile Intel® GL40 Express Chipset

Memory: 1GB DDR2 RAM

Video Type: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M with up to 1759 MB of Intel DVMT 5.0 (64 MB of Dedicated Memory, up to 1695 MB of Shared Memory )

56K Modem and Gigabit LAN

Wireless LAN Built in Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/Draft-N) Wireless (Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter)

Card Reader: Built in 5 in 1 Card Reader

Built-in Camera: Acer CrystalEye Webcam

This Acer Aspire comes with Linpus Linux software. To be honest, this the software is a little complicated and is not user friendly. If you are not familiar and do not use Linux that hard, this operating system will not do good for you. The thing is, you have to be familiar with the basic commands of the linux.

However, the recommended software for this laptop is VISTA. Even the drivers that comes with it are VISTA ready. So if you are planning to use XP on this laptop, you may have to spend a little more time downloading the drivers on the net.

My Personal Feedback

This laptop is really sleak in its design. Crystal clear camera with a crystal clear monitor. This may be the trademark of the Acer art.

What I just don't like with this laptop is the very limited USB port. It has ONLY 2, AS IN TWO USB PORTS. In my case, the other USB port is damaged, so I cannot also use it. Shew... anyway, I must admit that I am still really enjoying this really nice laptop.

Another thing that I do not like with this laptop is the mediocre sound. Comparing it to DELL Presario, DELL is still ahead in its technology when it comes to laptop sound.

So if I have to grade this laptop, I will grade it with 4 out of 5, 5 being the highest.

Partnering it with UBUNTU Linux

Well, I really like UBUNTU Linux. I really have no problem running all the softwares in this laptop upon my installation of UBUNTU Linux except for some problems that may involve hardware-driver supports.

Here are the things that you will really have to work on:

Video playing. Since some of the drivers of intel especially the new hardware supports is not yet supported with some linux operating systems including ubuntu. Though I tried checking the internet though, i found out that OpenSUSE and Mandriva. But since I am using UBUNTU, boy, even until now that I am writing this, I still cannot play video here because all my other programs running including my desktop freezes except for my mouse cursor.

WIFI Problem. As I said many hardware used in this laptop are still new to market and because of that, many most linux softwares does not yet support these hardwares. Maybe we only have to wait for a few more months....

Camera. Well, there is really nothing wrong in running the acer built in camera in this laptop using UBUNTU. However, the resolution and the output is mediocre in comparison to that if you are using XP or Vista. But again, Ubuntu might be far more better than that of Windows in the near future.

Over all, I love this laptop while having the linux ubuntu installed. It's just there are some problems that needs to be resolved.:)) And if I will have to choose between Linux and Windows, I will still choose Linux.
